What It Is
GHK-Cu is a copper(II) coordination complex of the human tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, in which the Cu(II) ion is coordinated by the imidazole side-chain nitrogen of histidine, the alpha-amino nitrogen of glycine, and the deprotonated amide nitrogen of the peptide bond, conferring a copper(II) affinity comparable to the copper-transport site on albumin.
Research Background
GHK-Cu has been investigated across a range of in vitro systems, including cultured human dermal fibroblasts, lung fibroblasts derived from COPD patients, keratinocyte-containing skin equivalents, mesenchymal stromal cells, and several human cancer cell lines. In vivo studies have employed subcutaneous wound-chamber implant models in rats, as well as wound-healing paradigms in rabbits, mice, pigs, and dogs. A limited number of placebo-controlled clinical studies in human subjects have also been conducted, including trials examining skin biopsy endpoints via immunohistological analysis. Additionally, genome-wide gene-expression profiling has been applied to characterize the compound's influence on large-scale transcriptional programs across multiple tissue types.
Observed Areas of Interest in Research
Research has examined GHK-Cu's modulation of extracellular matrix metabolism, specifically its capacity to influence synthesis and breakdown of collagen (types I and III) and glycosaminoglycans, as well as the activity of matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors TIMP-1 and TIMP-2; in a rat in vivo wound-chamber model, type I and type III collagen mRNAs were found to be elevated while TGF-beta mRNAs were not, suggesting pathway-specific transcriptional effects independent of that growth factor. Investigators have also studied the compound's interaction with integrin signaling, including upregulation of integrin beta-1 expression and elevation of epidermal stem-cell markers such as p63 in basal keratinocytes. Genome-profiling analyses reported in published reviews identified putative regulation of genes associated with DNA repair, NF-kB suppression, proteasome pathway activation, and reversal of transcriptional signatures associated with emphysema and certain cancer cell line models. Storage Instructions
All products from Blitz Health are manufactured using a lyophilization (freeze-drying) process. This method is designed to maintain product integrity and allows vials to remain stable during shipping for approximately 3–4 months.
Once a vial is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, it should be stored in the refrigerator to help maintain stability. Under these conditions, reconstituted material is generally considered stable for up to 30 days.
Lyophilization is a dehydration technique in which compounds are frozen and then exposed to low pressure. This causes the water in the vial to sublimate directly from solid to gas, leaving behind a stable, crystalline white structure. This powder can be kept at room temperature until reconstitution.
Upon receipt, products should be stored away from heat and light. For short-term use, refrigeration at approximately 4°C (39°F) is suitable. For long-term storage (several months to years), vials may be placed in a freezer at approximately -80°C (-112°F). Freezing is the preferred method for preserving product stability over extended periods.
